About Buy My Deal

The idea

Classified ads work better when you can see the thing for sale. Buy My Deal films the item, puts the video online and, from 2014 to 2015, put it on Orlando cable TV as well. A buyer watches a car walk-around or a house tour before picking up the phone.

Why it exists

In the founder's account, buymydeal.com began in 2008 as a commodities sourcing site. That industry turned out to be full of people posing as sellers: brokers presenting themselves as owners, aliases, people fishing for information, and outright fraud. The answer became the product: a marketplace where the item and the seller are both on video, so a buyer sees what is for sale and who is selling it before any money moves.

What is on the site today

• 27 video listings filmed in Orlando in April 2015. They are kept as an archive. Every offer has expired and nothing in them is for sale.
• The TV show: four broadcasts and the promo, playing on our sister site buymydeal.tv.
• Our phone numbers and email, on the contact page.

What is live and what is next

The old site ran on 2015 server software that stopped working, so the marketplace was rebuilt in stages. Live today: member accounts, video listings that are checked before they go live, search, messages between buyers and sellers, comments, follows and offers on listings. Still to come: timed bidding and on-site payment going straight to the seller for items that can be sold online, and live seller video with optional face to face calls. Each stage goes live only when it is ready. Until then, those buttons on this site say "coming soon" and do nothing.
