Version 4
The short version
We collect what we need to run member accounts and video listings, keep the site safe and answer you. We do not sell personal information, we show no advertising and we use no analytics or tracking cookies.
What is collected
- Account details. Your email address, display name, optional city, your password (stored only as a one way hash), the date you confirmed you are 18 or older, and which version of the terms you accepted and when.
- Listings. The title, description, price, location, the optional contact phone number you choose to show, and the video you upload. We remove location data embedded in video files (for example a phone's GPS position) when we convert them, and we delete the original file after conversion.
- Messages. The messages you send and receive about a listing, when they were sent and read, members you block, and conversations you stopped emails for.
- Comments and follows. The comments you post on listings (public, with your display name), and the sellers you follow (the number of followers is public, the names are not).
- Notifications. The list on your notifications page, your email preferences, and when we last emailed you about a conversation or sent you a daily digest.
- Sign in cookies. Two cookies keep you signed in and protect forms from forgery. They are needed for the site to work and are not used for tracking.
- Security records. Our web server and our network provider, Cloudflare, record technical details of each request: IP address, the page asked for, the time, the browser type and the referring page. We also keep the IP address of sign ins, registrations and reports, and a log of moderation actions, to stop abuse.
- Reports. If you report a listing or send a copyright notice, we keep your name, email address and what you wrote.
- Your video quality choice. If you pick 720p or 480p in a player, your browser remembers that choice in its own local storage. It stays on your device.
- Email and phone calls. If you email or call us, we keep what you send so we can answer it.
- Page counts. We count visits to our pages on our own server, with no extra cookies and no third-party scripts; our own page script sends the page count and the ad counts to our server. For each page view we keep the page address (without any search terms), the site you came from, your browser type, and a code made from your network address and a daily secret, which we do not keep in a form that identifies you. Raw page views are kept for 30 days; after that only daily totals remain. For the ads on our pages we count how many times an ad was requested, seen (at least half of it on screen for one second) and clicked against an anonymous page view, without recording who you are; the page you came from is reduced to its site name before it is stored.
- Email delivery. We keep a record of each email we try to send to you, with a one-way code instead of your address, for 90 days, so that we can see when delivery fails.
Who sees what
Published listings, including your display name, the city you enter and the contact phone number if you add one, are public. Your email address is never shown on the site. Our staff see account and listing details to review listings and reports. Messages are private between the two members; our staff open a conversation only when one of its messages is reported, and each such access is logged. Email is sent from our own server. We share information with authorities only when the law requires it or to report illegal content.
How long we keep it
Account details are kept while your account exists. When you delete your account we replace your email address, name and password hash with placeholders, remove your contact details from reports you sent, and hide your listings: they are removed from the site immediately; a copy cached by a visitor's browser expires within one hour. Their video files are deleted within 24 hours, except for a listing held for a deal, as described below. Your comments, follows, blocks, notifications and email preferences are deleted; messages you sent stay in the other member's conversation under the name "Deleted member". The original file you upload is deleted as soon as it has been converted; we keep only a fingerprint (a hash) of it. If a listing has a deal (pending, arranged, paid, or cancelled, expired or refunded within the last 180 days) or a bidding round that ended within the last 180 days, a snapshot of that listing, including its video, is kept while the deal or bidding round is still open and for up to 180 days after its last change so that the parties can refer to it, and is then deleted.
Copies of the emails we send are kept in our outgoing mail queue for up to 30 days; for a message that could not be delivered, the address and the text are removed after 7 days. Reports are kept for two years after they are resolved. The moderation and security log (sign ins, registrations, reports and moderation actions, with IP addresses) is kept for two years. Sign in sessions end after 30 days without use. Read notifications are deleted after 90 days and all notifications after one year. A conversation is deleted when both members have deleted their accounts. Database backups are kept for 14 days.
The 2015 archive
The archive videos were filmed with the sellers in 2015. Before republishing them we removed sellers' phone numbers, email addresses and street addresses from the listing text. Sellers' phone numbers shown in the videos were blurred on screen and muted in the audio. Our own published business number, 1-407-329-4505, still appears in a few clips. If you appear in a video and want it changed or removed, email us with the page address.
