Zero fraud policy

The name sets the standard we hold ourselves to: no tolerance for fraud. No marketplace can promise that nobody will ever try. This policy says what we do about it and what you can do.

What we will never do

  • Ask you to pay for an item through us. Buy My Deal does not take payments today; buyers and sellers arrange payment between themselves until on-site payment with direct seller payment launches.
  • Ask for payment by gift card, wire transfer, cryptocurrency or a payment app on behalf of a seller.
  • Ask for your passwords, bank login or card number by phone, text or email.

If someone claiming to be Buy My Deal asks for any of these, it is not us. Call 1-866-541-8383 to check.

The 2015 archive

Every listing in the archive has expired. Anyone who contacts you claiming to sell an archive item through Buy My Deal is not acting for us.

How the new marketplace is designed

  • Video listings are checked by a person before they go live.
  • Buyers and sellers will be able to message each other without sharing phone numbers.
  • Where online payment is offered, the money goes straight from the buyer to the seller through a regulated payment provider. Buy My Deal does not hold the funds.
  • Cars, homes and other goods that need a title transfer stay as classifieds, with no payment on the site.
  • Face to face video calls will only be recorded when every person on the call has agreed, and everyone on the call is told while it is recording.

These features are not live yet. This page will be updated as each one opens.

Safer buying, in person

  • Meet in a public place in daylight. Many police stations offer a safe exchange spot.
  • See the item working before you pay. For vehicles, check the title and the VIN.
  • Be wary of a price far below the market or a seller who will not meet.
